Pisces Rising is my third project. Except the photograph
of the young woman, the other photographs were by me. Three countries
and two states mingle within this image. I've loved the different responses.
Kyle saw the tower as the remnant of a Buddhist stupa and I forget how
he saw the fish and the woman. But the gist was that he saw the tower
as the way formalized religion separates-traps man away from nature
or something like that. It was not a putdown on religion but rather
more the way religion is practiced when people follow the letter but
not the spirit. Chiyo saw the carp as hungry women chasing the man and
he feels safe in the tower, as if he has escaped but in reality he is
trapped by the woman he is involved with--the woman outside the tower.
George is into astrology so his interpretations was based on the title
and 12th house issues of imprisonment. James guessed the title without
being told although George gave him a big huge hint that it was astrology-related.
Acesta left his interp in the guestbook: Both the man
and the woman look to be very content with where they are at. The woman
is a playful spirit. She seems to be toying with the man behind the
bars. He doesn't seem to mind. The fish are very hungry. Maybe hungry
for some level of being that is beyond their reach. But the bird is
the only truly free creature in this scene. The woman in "Pisces Rising"
may not realize it, but because she is so drawn to the stone structure,
is as "trapped" as the man behind the bars.
